With Rachel today we learnt about light and shadows. Did you know the term Umbra means the darkest part of the shadow and the lightest part is called the Penumbra. We made a hypothesis and did a ‘Fair test’ measuring the height of shadows using torches and converted our findings into a graph. We also learnt that light moves in a straight line.

This term the 5/6s have been learning how to write persuasive writing pieces. We chose a topic that we support or disagree with. Some of the topics we have written about include: Dogs are better than cats, Students should wear casual clothes, Learning two languages should be compulsory and Animals should not be hunted. When we went to Badminton we learnt how to serve and the rules of the game. We also learnt a game called ‘Around the world’. To play you need a racket and a shuttle. It was hard to serve over the net because it was taller than us. We really enjoyed the experience of playing badminton.

Introducing Prep Buddies
The grade 5s are very lucky because we get to introduce our prep buddies at assembly. When we were doing our buddy speeches we were so nervous! We took a look at all the people looking up at us! We think we did a pretty good job. For our buddy speeches we asked our buddies about ten questions beforehand and then made them all into speeches, then at the assembly we tell the whole school about our fantastic buddies.
