Principal Update - Christmas Evening

Christmas Market Evening

What an extraordinary evening our Christmas Market was!

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this wonderful event—it was truly a testament to the strength of our school community and the spirit of generosity and creativity that makes St Columba’s so special.

A heartfelt thank you to the many people who contributed to the success of the evening. From our dedicated staff to the talented students who brought their learning to life, and most importantly, to our incredible parent community who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it all happen—this was a collective effort in every way. Your time, energy, and support were essential to the night’s success, and we are so grateful for all that you gave.

A special mention must go to the choir for their beautiful performances, which set the tone for the evening and captured the magic of the season. Their talent and hard work, supported by our dedicated music staff, were a highlight of the night. Particular recognition goes to our Year 5/6 students and their teaching team, whose Creativity Unit and Passion Projects formed the heart of the market.

This event showcased not only the students’ entrepreneurial skills and creativity but also the richness of our learning model. It was incredible to see how their work reflected our teaching approach, moving from surface knowledge to deep understanding and ultimately to real-world application. The integration of maths, literacy, STEM, and religious education into their projects highlighted the depth and breadth of their learning journey this term.

A special thank you to the many parents who assisted throughout the unit, running workshops and sessions sharing their unique skills and talents with our students. The evening also brought together all levels of the school, with stalls and contributions from every year group. This collaboration not only demonstrated the creativity and enthusiasm of our students but also highlighted the sense of community that makes St Columba’s such a wonderful place.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event, whether by helping to prepare, setting up, running a stall, or simply attending and sharing the joy of the evening. The connections we build as a community during events like this are invaluable and reflect the values we aim to instil in our students.

We are so proud of what was achieved—an evening that not only celebrated the Christmas season but also showcased the incredible teaching and learning happening in our school. Thank you for being a part of it and for your ongoing support.

Warm regards,

Bambi Afford & Shaun Mohr
