Prep News
Welcome to Prep news for Term 2! We’ve had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks.
How’s your engine running?
During learning time, we have been introducing the children to ‘The Alert Program.’ It is a valuable tool to help us recognise and name how we are feeling and then adjust or self-regulate in order to be at our best.
We use the analogy that our body is like a car engine. Sometimes it runs on high, sometimes it runs on low, and sometimes it runs just right! It emphasises how to change alert levels throughout the day, making it easy to get out of bed, work, play, learn, relax, socialise and go to bed. Are you feeling wired and hyped up (high alert state)? Are you feeling sluggish or running out of steam (low alert state)? Are you feeling focused, zeroed in on the task, where it’s easy to learn and problem-solve (“just right” state)?
Ideally, we want the ability to shift easily from one state to another throughout our day. We use this language with the children in the hope that they will begin to use it themselves both at home and at school. Ultimately we want them to be able to self-regulate and operate at an optimal level.

Anzac Day
We celebrated Anzac Day by reading stories about the Anzacs, making poppies, dressing up like soldiers and making and eating Anzac biscuits.
The Anzac biscuits made our room smell so good when they were cooking. They tasted really yummy! Aurelia
Megan helped us to make Anzac biscuits. I had to roll them into balls. Reuben

It was so cool when Julie got us to walk the dog. Fletcher was cool. Elliott
Fletcher was cute. The dog was good because people needed to concentrate and not be distracted. Zara
Fletcher was very clever going down and back up the steps. Isla
She was cute, I got to walk her with Isla. She was sniffing. Patterson
