Prep News
Welcome to Prep news for Term 2! We’ve had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks.
How’s your engine running?
During learning time, we have been introducing the children to ‘The Alert Program.’ It is a valuable tool to help us recognise and name how we are feeling and then adjust or self-regulate in order to be at our best.
We use the analogy that our body is like a car engine. Sometimes it runs on high, sometimes it runs on low, and sometimes it runs just right! It emphasises how to change alert levels throughout the day, making it easy to get out of bed, work, play, learn, relax, socialise and go to bed. Are you feeling wired and hyped up (high alert state)? Are you feeling sluggish or running out of steam (low alert state)? Are you feeling focused, zeroed in on the task, where it’s easy to learn and problem-solve (“just right” state)?
Ideally, we want the ability to shift easily from one state to another throughout our day. We use this language with the children in the hope that they will begin to use it themselves both at home and at school. Ultimately we want them to be able to self-regulate and operate at an optimal level.

Exciting times ahead!
Our long awaited move into our new classroom is scheduled to happen on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of June, with our first day in our new learning space on Monday 5th June. If you have any spare time prior to our move to pack a few boxes, or are available to help us on ‘moving day/s’ please let any of the Prep staff know. The children will work with other teachers in the 1/2  Learning Community on the 1st and 2nd June to ensure their safety whilst the move takes place.

REMEMBER: PREP ‘50 Days’ PARTY Tuesday 16th May Remember to bring in your representation of 50 on Monday 15th May. (Eg a photo of a 50 year old, 50 cents, 50 items etc.)
