Sport
On Tuesday the 28th of February we were invited to try out for the cross country event. The year 3s and 4s had to run five laps around the school and the year 5s and 6s had to run seven laps around the school.
In sport we have been practicing for sports day. We have also been improving our tennis skills.

Writing
In writing we have been learning about simple and compound sentences. We are also learning about talking marks and how to make sentences sound more interesting and meaningful. A simple sentence only has one main clause and a compound sentence has two and is joined by a conjunction;
(FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so).

Maths
Our focus in maths has been on positive and negative integers and place value. It is important to remember when doing number lines to use your ruler to rule a line. You also need to measure the distance between each number equally.

ERPs
Our term one subject focus is Science and Interpersonal Learning. Some areas we are researching include skateboarding, seasons, weather and Australian Native Animals. We are exploring interesting ways we can present our ERPs, such as Paper Mache, Dioramas and News Reports.

Japanese
In Japanese we have been learning about darumas and the good luck symbols. When you buy them they have blank eyes, and you colour in one eye when you've set a goal and then when you fulfill
your goal or wish you color in the other eye.
The writing on the daruma is a symbol of good luck and fortune and means ‘fall down seven times get up eight’.

Digital Ed
The focus of Digital Ed is to understand how to use, create and solve problems using computers. We are learning how to use Google docs, Google drive and coding.

The Arts
In the Arts we are learning the style of continuous line drawings. A continuous line drawing is one line where you don’t lift the pen off the paper. We have enjoyed learning this new style of art and have drawn objects in the classroom, completed portraits and tried tracing a picture. When the picture is finished we can use watercolour on it. We are then going to mount the pictures onto black card.

5/6 Learning Community
In the 5/6 Learning Community we have learnt in RE about positive relationships with other people and ways to restore them when they’re broken.
For Writing we have been learning about different forms of a clause (Example: I went to Melbourne.)
In ERP our focus is Science and Interpersonal Development. We have to work in pairs to increase our interpersonal skills.

Cross Country
The cross country tryouts were held for students from grade 4 to grade 6. Students had to run around the school for a different amount of laps.
Normally the grade 4s run around the school 5 times and the grade 5/6s run around the school 7 or 8 times.
If you come first, second, third or fourth you go to a different school and race against different people. If you make the top 15 you go into states and race.
If you have not made the top 15 you go back to school and move on with your school work. Good luck if you try out!
