Message from the Principal

  • Road Work on Gregory Street
  • Blake Dridan Update
  • Volunteering
  • Uniform
  • ANZAC Day

Wedding Congratulations
Congratulations to Kelly (nee Siebring) and Jason Leoncini on their wedding.  Kelly and Jason married on Saturday 8th April at St Patrick’s Church.  We wish them every happiness as they begin their married life together.

Easter Welcome
Congratulations to Emily and Isabella Wallis, Angela Webber, Natasha Bryant, Noah and Archie Svanosio on their full reception into the Catholic Church this Easter.
Building Works Update
Painting of the new Prep space is almost complete with painting of the 3/4 space being completed early next week.  Floor coverings and pinboards will then be installed, followed by the acoustic ceiling baffles.
The new space is really starting to take shape and we can see the end in sight.  Handover date will be the end of May with students hopefully working in the space at the start of week 8 of this term.  Works will then commence on the 5/6 learning space.
Road Works on Gregory Street
We were hoping that the road works on Gregory Street would be completed ready for school to resume.  As this has not happened, the Gregory Street gates will need to remain closed.  All students will still need to arrive and depart from school through the Howard Street gates.  Please be very careful when dropping off and picking up students as we have over 300 students exiting the school at the same time.

Blake Dridan Update
Blake continues to improve. Though he is still in the isolation ward of the Royal Children’s Hospital, he has been allowed a few special visitors over the last week.  Blake’s sister, Georgia, who he hasn’t seen for many weeks and Brandon Ellis from the Richmond Football Club were allowed in to spend time with Blake last week.  Brandon delivered a Tigers membership and some gear to Blake, including a new jumper signed by the whole Richmond team. It is great to see a smile on Blake’s face.
Volunteering
Thank you to the many parents who have completed the Expression of Interest form for volunteers and the online training module.  There are a number of parents waiting for the link for the training module. This will be emailed through to you in the next day or so.
I encourage all parents who plan on volunteering in any capacity at St Columba's now or in the future to complete the Expression of Interest form.  It only takes a couple of minutes to complete. The form is available via our school website www.scballarat.catholic.edu.au under the School Community tab.

Uniform
This term the students are expected to wear full winter uniform. While the weather is turning, and we are still experiencing a few warmer days, it is acceptable for students to still wear their summer uniform. We ask that by the start of May, all students are wearing full winter uniform every day.

ANZAC Day
Next Tuesday is a public holiday for ANZAC Day. Our School Captains, Tess Palmer and Tom Smart will represent the St Columba’s School community in the ANZAC day procession and lay a wreath on our behalf at the Cenotaph. We thank them for taking on this special role.

Next Assembly
Our next assembly will be next Friday 28th April 2.30pm in the church.  This Assembly will be lead by LG 11.  At this assembly 6 of our Prep students will be introduced to the school community by their grade 5 buddy.

The following prep students will be introduced:-
Aurelia Verdoorn, Oliver Chadwick, Samara O’Keeffe, Addison Eeles, Cormac Murrihy and Gogo Joyce
