3 Way Conversations
This week sees the celebration of learning across our school with the 3 Way Conversations. It has been wonderful to see so many of our families celebrating the successful learning journey of their children. 3 Way Conversations are an integral part of our reporting process and allow our students agency in selecting the learning that they share; empowering them to take ownership for their current and future learning.
National Child Protection Week
This week is National Child Protection Week (NCPW). This week invites all Australians to play their part to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. NCPW is coordinated by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN). The theme this year is “Stronger Communities, Safer Children”.
At St Columba’s School we are committed to being a nurturing, child-safe school where all children and young people are respected, their voices heard and where they are safe and feel safe. Our commitment and responsibility to child safety is driven by Jesus Christ’s message of hope, love and care for all. On our school website are a number of policies and procedures that we have developed around Child Safety.
Over the last few months, the ‘Voice’, involving representatives from every learning group, have met to develop resources for all students around child safety. The resources will support them in knowing some of the signs and symptoms that they may not feel safe and who they can turn to if they don’t feel safe. Thanks to Megan Bourke for her work with the Voice to develop these resources.
A Generous Bequest to our School
Our school has received an incredibly generous bequest from Fr Brendan Davey (dec). Fr Brendan completed his primary education at St Columba’s School about 70 years ago. He has always had very fond memories of the school and always shared with great affection his time here. Fr Brendan was my Parish Priest for 7 years while Principal of St Mary’s School in Ararat. In August 2016, Fr Brendan sadly passed away. Twelve months later our school has received a very generous cheque to assist with the development of student’s education. This bequest will be used to complete a number of the building works that we could not afford to complete within the building project.
