Dear Parents
School Review
Yesterday we welcomed the School Review Panel of Helen Goode, Tony Perkins, Bill Slatter and Eileen Rice to our school. The Review Panel spent the day meeting with groups of parents, students and staff to discuss what are the great things about St Columba’s School and what areas can we continue to improve in the future. The Review Panel will return this Friday 27th October to work with our school’s Leadership Team to develop our School Improvement Plan for the next 5 years.
I thank those parents and students who willingly took part in these discussions.
Classes for 2018
All Learning Communities now work in open learning environments. All teachers share responsibility for the learning and wellbeing of all students within their Learning Community. Though students are based in a home learning group, they regularly interact and work with other students and teachers across the community.
During November, in preparation for 2018, teachers will work together to place students into home learning groups. Decisions will be made based on teachers knowledge of each student’s learning and wellbeing needs. If there is any information that you feel your child’s teacher is not already aware of in regards to their learning and wellbeing, please make the time to have a conversation with them prior to Thursday 9th November.
If you feel that you cannot discuss information with your child’s current teacher for any reason, please make an appointment to meet with Kim Butler prior to Thursday 9th November.
Please note that this year correspondence re class groupings received via email or letter will not be considered.
School Uniform & Jo Jo Bows
By next week all children must be wearing full summer uniform. This includes wearing a school hat while outdoors.
We have a large number of students wearing colourful ‘Jo Jo Bows’ to school at present. Please note - these bows may only be worn to school if they are in our school colours - royal/navy blue or yellow.
Condolences
Our condolences to Shelly McCarthy, Keeley (LG4) and Tanner (LG13) on the death of Shelly’s mother during the school holidays.
Congratulations
Last term we had a number of senior students enter the HarperCollins ‘Magic Book Project’. Students were asked to write, film or draw a review of a book that they had read. Congratulations to Leonora (LG7) who won the major prize for the most original entry; an Apple iPad Mini 2 and a copy of the reviewed book.
A number of our senior students also entered the Ballarat Writers Festival Children’s Writing Competition for students in Grade 5 and 6. Congratulations to Audrey (LG5) who shared ‘equal winner’ with three other students from Ballarat schools. Audrey will receive a $30 gift voucher from Collins Bookstore.
