Athletic Sports
A wonderful sense of school community and team spirit was evident yesterday at our School Athletic Sports. Congratulations to all students for the positive way in which they participated in the day. It was fantastic to hear the children supporting and encouraging each other. A special thank you to the leadership shown by our House Captains on the day and in the lead up to the Sports.
Thank you to the many parents who came and supported and assisted on the day. Without your support, the day could not go ahead. Thanks also to the staff who work incredibly hard to make the day such a success, particularly to Nicky Russell and Wayne Lynch for the enormous amount of time and effort they have put in over the last month.
It was a little disappointing that we could not beat the rain and complete the relays, however we were fortunate to be able to hold most of the events.  The results leading up to the relays were tallied and presentations were made at school on Tuesday morning.
Congratulations to Donegal (green) on winning the Athletic Sports, particularly since Donegal have not won the Sports since 2007. They were followed very closely behind (only 6 points) by Argyle (blue).
Poppy Kingdom-Pearce and Darby Drew, Donegal’s House Captains, accepted the trophy on behalf of the green house group.  Their speech is included below.
We would just like to thank all the teachers, especially Mrs Russell and Mr Lynch for organizing this day because this day would not be possible without them.
We would also like to thank the parents who were able to come and help out with all the activities and take time off to participate in things like scoring, helping out with activities and also to come and support your kids.
Now we would like to thank the other teams for all trying their best and giving it their best go.  Oh, and we can’t forget to thank Green House.  Go Green 2017.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Kelly Siebring
We wish Kelly Siebring and Jason Leoncini all the very best for their wedding on Saturday 8th April.  We wish them both every happiness as they start their married life together.

Blake Dridan Update and Fundraiser
Today is Day 19 post bone marrow stem cell transplant for Blake.  As expected Blake is very unwell. He has contracted pneumonia as well as another unknown infection.  The family is patiently waiting for news and will know more after Day 30.

This Friday 31st March, a fundraiser (‘Brighten Blake’s Day’) will be held at school to raise much needed funds to assist with medical expenses for Blake.
On ‘Brighten Blake’s Day’ children are asked to come to school dressed in bright coloured clothes to let Blake know that we send him our prayers, good thoughts and love. The cost will be $5 for a cupcake and casual clothes or a gold coin donation for casual clothes only. Please order cupcakes via the Care Monkey app.

Building and Road Works Update
The plastering is almost complete in our new Prep and 3/4 Learning spaces, and the painters ready to start.  We are hopeful to be in our new spaces by the end of May.
I have been informed that the road works on Gregory Street will be completed over the school holidays.  Hopefully the Gregory Street gates will be open ready for students when school returns on Wednesday 19th April.  Thank you for taking extra care when picking up and dropping students to school at present while we only have access through the Howard Street gates.

Winter School Uniform
Next term the students are expected to wear full winter uniform.  While the weather is turning, and we are still experiencing a few warmer days, it is acceptable for students to still wear their summer uniform.  We ask that by the start of May, all students are wearing full winter uniform every day.  School hats are not required to be worn during term 2.
A reminder to students and parents that on ‘non-sport’ days, all students must wear school shoes to school, and not runners. If your child is out of uniform for any reason, a note must be written in their school diary.
