- Review from Planet Rhythm workshop
John Rattley 'Planet Rhythm' Percussion Incursion 23/4/18
We filed into the hall silently, not quite knowing what was awaiting us. There was wordless music filling the background as we sat down on the carpet. A man was standing by the door, fiddling with a microphone. Once we had all taken our seats the man (whose name was John) introduced himself and told us a bit of basic history about instruments, mostly drums. We learnt about what the earliest instruments were made of and how they were made and we were shown some examples of these. After we had learnt the basic history of the drum, John explained what we would be doing, he would play a tune on the drum set and six of us would have to tap the beat on drums up the front. The first group went up and played the beat of his music, then after they had played, they chose a few of them to be in the whole school concert at the end of the day. The people on the list stayed behind to practise while the others left.
