The school is just around the corner. It is wonderful to see and hear the buzz around the school as classes busily prepare their items. A few details for your information;
Concert Arrival Information
The concert starts at 7pm at Her Majesty's Theatre, Lydiard St. To ease congestion we are staggering arrival times for children. Please note that the Prep and Choir children will meet their teachers downstairs in 'Lucky's Foyer' which is located downstairs from the main foyer. All other children will congregate in the main foyer area with their class teachers. We ask that 'delivery' of children is punctual so that traffic can flow. When classes are assembled they will be escorted to the dressing rooms.
Arrival Times : Prep/1/2 : 5.45pm
Grade 3/4's and 3 - 6 Choir Children : 6.15pm
Remaining Non-choir Grade 5/6's : 6.30pm
Due to OH&S concerns, no parents are permitted into the dressing room areas without backstage passes. Once children have arrived parents, friends and family could perhaps enjoy some refreshments at nearby places like Craig's Hotel, while they wait for the concert to begin.
Choir children will need to come dressed in their full winter school uniform and bring any costume parts needed in a bag.
The children will be supervised by staff for the duration of the concert and the upper balcony area is reserved for them. At the conclusion of the concert instructions will be given for an orderly collection of children from this area. We ask that parents do not collect their children before the end of the concert.
Where possible children should arrive wearing at least part of their costumes (if any parts are provided from home). Costuming from Curtain Call studios will be waiting for the children in their dressing rooms. Children should wear easily removed items such as tracksuits, dressing gowns or jackets so that they are comfortable when off the stage.
Theatre Rehearsal Day (Wednesday, August 16)
On the day of the concert the children will take part in a safety talk and theatre familiarisation session at the theatre (without their costumes). Children will travel to the theatre by bus. Please note that the choir children will not do a rehearsal at the theatre.
Shuttle bus times for Theatre Rehearsal Day: Prep/1/2 : 9 - 12pm
Grade 5/6 : 11.30 - 1.30pm
Grade 3/4 : 1 - 3pm
Dress Rehearsal Day (Friday 11th August)
Next Friday the children will take part in a full dress rehearsal at school. Children will practice changing quickly in their classrooms and getting to the stage on time for their performance (in the hall). Each child needs to bring a named plastic bag for this day so that keeping track of personal belongings is less chaotic. Teachers may collect these bags to reuse at the actual concert. Children should bring any parts of their costumes in their bag and wear their school uniform to school.
Costumes
The majority of class teachers have been able to send out a paper note outlining costume requirements from home. The last couple of classes will come out this week - we have been waiting to confirm the last few costume items so thank you for your patience. We are lucky to be working with Lindy Procaccino-Crowe and she has been able to source many costumes through her theatre company 'Curtain Call'. Lindy's costumes will not be sent home. They will be labelled, organised and transported to the dressing rooms on the day.
Parents please do not feel that you need to spend large sums of money preparing costumes. Hopefully any items required from home are things that are already in your child's wardrobe or easily sourced from family or friends.
DVD
A recording of the concert will be produced as a DVD. Details about how to order a copy of this DVD will follow after the concert.
Concert program design competition.
Thank you to all the students who submitted their designs into the competition. We have had some truly fantastic entries! Each design has been displayed in the staff room and voted on. Three entries have been selected to be used as the covers for the program and a winner has been selected from each learning community. These will be announced at our next assembly.
