Last Thursday many school families and staff joined together for a picnic in the school grounds. This was a great opportunity for families to catch up in an informal way. Staff from each Learning Community then shared information with parents in regards to timetabling, expectation of students, communication between school and home, programs offered, camps, Sacramental programs etc.
If you were unable to attend the Parent Information sessions and would like a copy of the information shared, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Opening School Mass
Last Friday our school community gathered to celebrate the start of our school year together through the Eucharist. It was a wonderful celebration and I thank all those who helped prepare the mass or came along and helped us celebrate.
During the mass our school staff received a blessing for their work this year, and our grade 6 students, School Captains and House Captains received their badges and were inducted into their roles.
Congratulations to our 2017 School Captains:
Tess Palmer and Tom Smart (School Captains)
Gemmah Phillips and Emily Severino (Vice School Captains)
Congratulations to our 2017 House Captains:
Iona (yellow) Meg Maher and Will Middleton
Donegal (green) Poppy Kingdom-Pearce and Darby Drew
Argyle (blue) Chiara Basilio and Logan Clark
Clonard (red) Breanna Jeffrey and Charlie Darbin
Tier 2 Intervention (More Support)
This year we have introduced a new initiative across the school to support student learning – Tier 2 Intervention or ‘More Support’. This is a system of support for every child at St Columba’s School. Three days a week for 45 minutes, two extra teaching staff work within each learning community. This enables teachers to work with students in small clinic groups which are targeted to the needs of the students. We are focusing specifically on literacy and numeracy during these sessions.

Enrolments for Prep 2018 opened on Monday. Existing families with a child starting school in 2018 are asked to complete an Application Form available from the school office as soon as possible. This will assist us to know how many places we will have available next year for new families.
Please note that existing families do not need to complete the online application form on the Catholic Education Office website as in previous years.
Parent /Teacher Interviews and PSG meetings
There is a little confusion regarding the dates of the Parent/Teacher Interviews later this term. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd March from 2.00 to 5.00. Online booking for these interviews will open on Monday 6th March.
Program Support Group (PSG) meetings will start on Friday 10th March. Online bookings for PSG meetings will open next Monday 27th February.
Please note: Parents attending a PSG do not need to book in for a Parent /Teacher Interview.
Notifying the school office of children travelling independently to school
A number of our older students walk, ride or scooter to school on their own. Parents of these students are asked to notify the office of this arrangement. If your child is absent from school and we have not been notified by you of this absence, we will send an SMS to alert you that your child has not arrived at school.
